The situation

Where they started

River was founded in 2013 selling two things, business telecoms and energy, and its website was built for that business: it opened with "Experts in Business Telecoms & Energy Solutions" and carried a black Voice | Data | Infrastructure logo. Meanwhile the business moved on — a renewables division in 2022, EV charging and battery storage in 2023, a regional award in 2024 — and by the end of this project it had left telecoms altogether.

The challenge

What it was costing them

Nobody buys a commercial solar array on impulse; they look the installer up first. A site that led with phone systems made a renewables specialist look like a broker dabbling in solar, and River's proof — accreditations, an award, installs with measured output — wasn't the first thing anyone saw. The cost was credibility at exactly the moment a buyer was deciding whether to trust River with a six-figure project. And the brief had a constraint: keep the colours people already recognised.

The approach

How we worked through it

1
Discover

A working site on day one, not a mood board

We kept River's heritage navy and blues, added one renewables green as the accent, and had a clickable prototype running the day the brief arrived — so every later decision was made on real pages rather than in the abstract.

2
Brand

Fourteen concepts — then the right answer was theirs

Two rounds of original logo concepts, then River brought a new wordmark of its own. Rather than defend ours, we made theirs work: the artwork kept exactly as drawn, recoloured into seven deep-water colourways. River chose Deep Water Tide, and we followed through with a 92-file logo pack.

3
Design

Five solutions, one framework

One page structure — overview, benefits, installs, a six-stage process timeline, FAQs — built first on LED Lighting and rolled out to all five solutions, so a buyer who has read one page knows how to read the rest.

4
Proof

Real numbers, or no numbers

Placeholder stats came off before launch, replaced by six real installs from River's own case studies. When a new content brief arrived with claims marked 'verify before publishing', we flagged each one on the page instead of filling the gap.

5
Launch

Built to drop into their WordPress

Every page delivered as a single self-contained file River's team could publish themselves — plus legal pages written for River, a sitemap, a 404 page, launch visuals, LinkedIn posts and team email signatures.

The result

What changed

The menu, the headline and the logo now all say the same thing: energy. The award and accreditations sit high on the home page, six real installs have a page of their own, and the pages run on River's own WordPress. (Dates, pages and files are measured from the project; we haven't quoted traffic figures — it's too soon after launch.)

What's next

The relationship carries on

A Business Energy Calculator is built and ready to switch on, and seven more River projects are waiting to become case studies — the shared framework means each lands without a redesign.
